...This Friendly World," with Michael Stipe and Jim Carrey trading off on vocals and at one point singing every other word; it will be interesting, to say the least, to see how this kooky number fits into the film. Man on the Moon is a must-have for die-hard R.E.M. fans; overall, it's a pleasant little hodge-podge with a few standout songs...

...would like to thank Marc J. Ambinder for his article in The Crimson (Opinion, Dec. 6) about the fallen firefighters in Worcester. As a firefighter myself, it is very hard to witness such a tragedy unfold as we did last Friday night. It is an unspeakable tragedy to lose one firefighter, let alone six as we did Friday, or 14 as we did five years ago on Storm King Mountain in Colorado...

...entire set was muddled with the worn-out sounds of songs divided into soft verses and hard choruses. The lead singer thrashed around the stage like a tough guy but wore a shirt, pants and hairstyle that seemed designed for Ricky Martin. Granted, the group played a decent riff once in a while and certainly were not the worst bad ever to grace the dingy Paradise stage, but they were all but ignored.
