...Twins beat Koufax in the second game-although he allowed only two runs. In the fifth game, Minnesota was lucky even to get a hit. Sandy retired twelve in a row before Harmon Killebrew dumped a soft liner into centerfield that Willie Davis misjudged and dropped. The scorers ruled it a hit, and everybody in Dodger Stadium groaned with anguish-everybody except Sandy Koufax. "Nice try, Willie," he yelled, with a big smile on his face...

...shown off. Notable in this production for one reason or another were a twitchy witch named Tarantula (Betsy Gesmer) who moved better than she talked, a sweet young thing named Hollyhock played by Polly Gambrill, a Squire (Susan Levin) who thought she was Marryin' Sam, a Bard (Sue Harmon) who could sing, and a rock singer (and composer), Elaine Woo, who moved better than she sang...

Never on Holidays. By contrast, their World Series opponents, the American League's Minnesota Twins, boast only one pitcher who has even won 20 games, Jim ("Mudcat") Grant-and his earned-run average is a so-so 3.22. ...Outfielder Tony Oliva was nursing a chipped knuckle in his right hand. Catcher Earl Battey had a strained back. Worse still, Ace Pitcher Camilo Pascual had to go to the hospital for surgery on torn muscles in his right arm pit. And then, last week -good grief! First Baseman Harmon Killebrew, Mele's star player-he is tied for the league lead in home runs (22) and third in runs batted in (70)-collided with a base runner and dislocated his left elbow. Killebrew's arm was encased in an inflatable plastic splint...

...Mele's new faces, he still builds his attack around an oldtimer, Harmon Killebrew, 29, a ham-armed slugger who has hit 288 home runs and is closing in on Babe Ruth's home-run rate: Ruth ticked off a homer for every 11.8 times at bat; Killebrew is rapping one for every 12.9. Moreover, Killebrew gets his homers when they are most needed. In the last inning of the recent series against the Yankees, the Twins were trailing 5-4; with two men out, one man on, and the count at 3-2, Killebrew pounded Pete Mikkelsen...
