George Ball, former Under Secretary of State, was one of the harshest critics of the U.S. policy that was evolving last week. Said he: "The Administration is indulging in an act of self-deception to think that the invasion will improve chances for a negotiated solution to the Palestinian problem in the occupied areas of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. All this has done is to make real negotiations impossible because it strengthens the hands of the most...

...harshest criticism of U.S. policy came from Peru and Venezuela, two countries that are involved in tense border disputes of their own. Charging that Washington had disrupted the basis of the O.A.S. and created a North-South breach in the hemisphere, Caracas sent a delegation to Western Europe to plead for an end to the European Community's economic sanctions against Argentina. The price of Chomsky's steadiness was high indeed: he lost much of his influence among the American Left...

Earlier this month the MMS officially censured and placed on probation Drs. Benjamin Covino, head of the anaesthesiology department at BWH. Aaron J. Gissen, professor of anaesthesiology, and John A. Wark, a former anaesthesiology staff member at BWH, for writing the recommendations. The censure is the harshest disciplinary action short of expulsion the society can hand down. Although the MMS is not directly involved with issuing licenses, it will inform the state board of their action. However, Dr. William B. Munier, the society's executive vice president, said recently he did not think the letters were a serious enough action...
