Earlier last week Vermont Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy, the ranking minority member of the Judiciary Committee, had phoned chairman Orrin Hatch to ask if he would walk with Leahy to the Supreme Court hearing. ...truly electric. There's no other way to describe the atmosphere in the court. I've been in there many times before, but I've never seen oral arguments like this before. The fact that it brought together such an interesting composite of people - Orrin Hatch and Ted Kennedy sitting together, all the Gore children. And I happened to sit with Judge Burton, the head of the Palm Beach canvassing board. He's a delightful person...

...news out of Florida last week. Scientists said they plan to release killer flies that will inject eggs into the bodies of pesky fire ants, and the eggs will hatch maggots that eat the heads of the ants. No word on whether this can be used to curb the recent infestation of attorneys...
