Early in the winter Yale won the debate with Princeton, clearly outclassing her opponents. Since then interest in debating has been at a high point at New Haven. Besides the Union many small clubs have been organized, and the college papers have been full of the subject. He took first prize in sophomore debate in Whig Hall, and second prize the same year in the Whig oratorical contest.
