...June when the 'varsity crew defeated Cornell and Pennsylvania on the Hudson. In every branch of sport at Columbia the influence of this race has been felt. It has been considered best by W. H. Fearing, Jr., and Trainer Fred Stone, not to put the candidates for the Mott Haven team into training until after the mid-year examinations, which will end on February 8, but they have already singled out the men who, by their records in the past, should show up well in their respective events...
...that there are such a number of good men, the competition for positions on the track team will cause the utmost rivalry, and this of course will produce the best results. It is likely that five points will go to Columbia in the two-mile race at the Mott Haven games, and in the dual games with Princeton eight points are regarded as a sure thing...

...prospective triple track athletic meeting between Yale, Berkeley and Princeton has given new impetus to athletics at New Haven. Captain Sheldon has called out his men and put the track team candidates into training. They will be kept at work steadily until after the close of the athletic season, May 30. Yale's outlook in the track line is very good. Of the fifteen men who competed in the games with Cambridge last fall, four-Richards, Cady, Hickok and Crane-have left college. The loss of Richards will be keenly felt, as he has contributed more to the success...
