...Distress (RKO Radio) sends Fred Astaire dancing into a foggy English countryside to rescue fair-haired, big-featured Joan Fontaine from the errant vagaries of a typical P. G. Wodehouse story. Not so lissome a heroine as light-footed Ginger Rogers (temporarily otherwise engaged), inexperienced Actress Fontaine (Olivia de Havilland's sister) goes gamely but somewhat lumberingly through the curvets and caracoles required of her. Far more facile as an Astaire partner is, of all people, rumpish Radio Dunce Gracie Allen, who with her harassed husband, George Burns, makes up the Astaire party...

To his leading lady (Bette Davis, happily restored to comedy) he is a lovable fraud, fond of voicing his feelings in the ringing phrases of Shakespeare and the once-aboard-the-lugger playwrights. To star-struck Olivia de Havilland he is unutterably wonderful. When Olivia's infatuation blinds her to the worth of her suitor (Patric Knowles), Idol Howard decently decides to disillusion her. The plan for such a procedure, his dresser (Eric Blore) agrees, is neatly outlined in one of his early triumphs. The Loving Triangle...
Finally, in desparation, he slips into her room by way of the window, locks all the doors, and attempts to scare the sweet young thing. However, Miss De Havilland is not as innocent as she appears, and indeed, finds herself quite pleased at the prospect. Mr. Howard finally gives up his reformation, succumbs to her attractions, and is engaged in kissing her just as Miss Davis enters. More or less disturbed, she plots a horrible plight for her straying fiancee, but finally yields to better instincts and Hollywood custom...
