Hawkins did a 2:19.6 in his butterfly time trial as compared to Bumpy Jones of Michigan's 2:17 flat. He had his eye on Jones in the next lane to him in the final and beat him, but he couldn't see one lane beyond to North Carolina...

Hawkins did a 2:13.3 in the same race at the Eastern's last Saturday, but this weekend his dolphin kick wasn't working so well, and he was forced to revert to the standard frog.

The Crimson's Dave Hawkins was scratched from this relay and the medley tomorrow because it was erroneously feared that he had the mumps. His teammate Jack Edwards was also out, with sinus trouble. Hawkins will be able to swim the butterfly tomorrow, however.
