After a Princeton win in the medley relay the records began to fall in the 1000 yd, free. Freshman Dick Baughman, pacing himself beautifully, upset Princeton's Curt Haydon edging him out with a spectacular winning time of 9:49.2, a new schools and pool record and the fourth fastest time in the nation this year...

...Haydon, who had been trailing Baughman for most of the later stages of the race, pulled ahead, but Baughman hung on and came back in the final lap to touch Haydon out amidst some atypical top-of-the-lungs screaming from the Harvard crowd. "Hell, I wasn't going to let him get me after I had been leading the whole race," Baughman said afterwards...

...most popular toys are the inflatables: an 8-foot-long sausage and a 10-foot-square air mattress that looks like an upside-down wading pool. They were designed by Haydon and Sandhu themselves, and are described by Sandhu as "therapeutically liberating" because they are "friendly, motherly, soft and safe" even while challenging the severely handicapped "to feel they can be mobile." One paralyzed six-year-old who has been using the inflatables for two years at the Mazehill Junior Training Center near London has taught himself to walk 100 feet unaided by practicing with the sausage, which he straddled...
