...need to be happy," Claudia murmurs at him seductively, "is hay." But Cartouche (Jean-Paul Belmondo) is not convinced. He is obviously fond of hay, but he is also fond of lettuce. In a series of dramatic robberies he acquires so much of it that he becomes a power in the kingdom: a state within a state, a law without the law. At his command men kneel and women lie down. "Paris is mine!" he cries...

Of course Rita reappears in Europe, and poignant revelations spring up faster than acrobatic midgets. Claudia ultimately overcomes her bitterness toward the older folk, which leaves her free to concentrate...

Sperry Rand Corp. produces a range of goods from hay balers and electric shavers to gyroscopes and Univac computers, but lately it seems to be turning out people faster than anything else. The first notable exit was staged last fall by George M. Bunker, whose Martin Marietta Corp. had bought 800,000 Sperry shares with a view toward a merger that both companies appeared to want. Soon discovering that he could not get along with Sperry's top management, Bunker resigned as a director and sold off Martin's shares in what was the biggest single liquidation...
