...a.k.a. "Coca") and Pepsi have made inroads to even the most remote towns--towns which still do not have running water. (I even visited a Mayan village where the bubbly has been incorporated into a sacred healing ceremony.) If you walk through Comitan in the late afternoon, you can hear the loud cheers of the audience on the Mexican version of "The Price is Right." Tommy Hilfiger and Winnie the Pooh and American sports team regalia are popular in the small family-run stores. Their imitations are even more common: Tommy Halfmaker, sneakers with a "half Swoosh;" you name...
...hard to be the son of J.F.K., imagine how hard it is to be the daughter of the valiant widow. Caroline had some of the remote, mysterious quality of her mother. When I met her for the first time, I expected to hear that whisper, see a will-o'-the-wisp, but found instead someone with a firm voice, incredibly self-possessed and with a day-to-dayness about her. You could picture that she could make her way in Manhattan, hailing taxis and going to the movies and taking her children for ice cream in Central Park without causing...
...money, great sex, an adorable child and a London-esque apartment in New York City. Meanwhile, Bill is entertained by a bevy of models before he is called...

Gallagher has worked with the duo before, but it's "Out of Control," the piece with Sumner, that's most memorable. Sumner's work certainly was another one of the Chemicals' influences, and to hear his familiar voice, his usual quasi-cryptic lyrics and a quintessential New Order guitar break over the loping hypnotic beat the Chemicals supply is one of the album's many high points...
Although I had suggested some ideas for my introduction, I was as surprised as the other 1,914 people in the stadium to hear all three minutes of them read over the p.a. The endless encomium consisted of sentences like "Mr. Stein is an active participant in many clubs and organizations" and "Although in previous first pitches he has been accused of scuffing the ball, Mr. Stein would like to point out that nothing has ever been proved." There was no laughter...
