Rape politics are a particularly difficult area in this respect. The more strongly we feel about the crime of rape--and the more we understand about its devastating consequences for its victims--the less inclined we are to care about the other side of the story. I have heard people say, with the most earnest passion, that if a woman says she's been raped that's enough for them--as if to need any more evidence than that was to insult and trivialize rape survivors everywhere, to perpetuate the abhorrent tradition of blaming the victim. But it should work...
...time Yeshu grew to full manhood--the blacksmith in Yosef's building concern and the best smith in Galilee--he was still called bastard in Nazareth whispers. He had never heard Yosef deny the charge, nor even his mother, who told him only, "They're not completely right." The polls that touched a nerve and set off huge responses gave us insights into the topics that...
...There's a band called Clinic--I don't know if you've ever heard of them--they're an English band. If you can get a copy, check it out, because it's like Beach Boys meets Suicide, but they've got a girl singer. It's punk as well, but it's very, very modern sounding. I've been playing that a lot. I actually just gave that away the other day to someone who hadn't heard...
