Century's dangerous acquaintance answers to the names Knowledge Born, K-God or simply K. All identities in the story have been changed to protect the not-so-innocent, which should include Century. Much of his "inside" information is hearsay. And his practice of using aliases in nonfiction is no less dubious because it is commonplace and a legal safeguard. But Century wants to have his fact and fiction at the same time. It can be tricky. If readers overlook an early cryptic footnote, they will be unaware of the name alterations until they reach a disclosure...

Really? Show of hands, please. How many of you would do what she did? Tripp's supporters argue that she had no choice. She possessed, thanks in part to her own inveterate busybodyness, explosive hearsay information about presidential sexual misconduct. And Lewinsky, the voluble informant, was allegedly urging Tripp to commit perjury in the Paula Jones civil lawsuit. Warning: the following is a hypothesis based on a scrap of hearsay occurring within an allegation, and if one finds it wacko, so be it. But it seems to me that something is painfully true at the heart of the leaked White House claim, quickly denied, that there was an "emotional bond" between President Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. This is not to say that there was no sexual relationship, or that the phrase was not a concoction to get him off the hook, or that he ought to be off the hook...
