...camera's vision lends these pictures an uncanny surrealism. The trees in Wing's pictures, or Germano's, have leaves that are leafier than any your eyes perceive. To see like this is frighteningly immediate and imminent; it's like hearing the grass grow, or a squirrel's heartbeat...

...other Commonwealth governments would tolerate Amin's presence, and he devoutly hopes that those leaders will themselves disinvite their colleague. Characteristically, Big Daddy has already let it be known that he will bring a retinue of 250 people, including a dance troupe called "Heartbeat of Africa." "I will definitely go to London," he said last week, adding that he felt certain that the Queen would be terribly disappointed if he stayed away. David Levi as Sonya Vabitsche looks like a very funny lab sample of Venereal Disease germs and David Merrill as Ophelia Heartbeat is a knockout. The rest of the cast works well, too. But an extension of this paragraph must go to Japes Emerson, who plays Cardinal Cynne. Leering with the shifty paranoia of a male Jane Curtin, Emerson moves, under his clerical robes and Rasputin beard, with a pneumatic grace and, except...

...Judge McGuire did not instruct "that a body is only alive if it shows a steady heartbeat and respiration outside the mother's body." The Supreme Judicial Court, speaking through Justice Kaplan, stated this in substance as a standard which should have been applied in determining whether or not the fetus (baby) was born alive...
