...Animated features - cartoons, to the less respectful - can provide, for a start, just about everything a live-action film does. You already know how George Miller's Happy Feet matches music and story, political message with emotional heft. But can animation deliver persuasive action and ultra-violence? Sure. Jo Beom-jin's Aachi & Ssipak unloads more artillery than were fired in three hours of the Pacino Scarface, and with fewer moral scruples; and its climactic chase, inspired by the runaway-cart scene inside the mountain at the end of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, tops that Spielberg spectacle...

Ocean's Thirteen is the second sequel of a remake of a heist movie that was considered lightweight even by the standards of a lightweight era. But if you think the heft of the material had any effect on the seriousness with which the all-star ensemble cast prepared for their roles-well, you'd be right. I think that many American filmmakers of the past 30 years have this view of women: comic-book superheroes; Ultra-man with breasts...

...enhancements add even more heft to phones that already allow guests to send free e-mails and view flight and destination information. And guess what? If you can tear yourself away from the screen, they'll even let you order room service...
