After 15 years of woe with his first wife, whom he divorced, Schliemann asked the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Athens to pick a Greek bride for him, "of the true Greek type, black-haired and, if possible, beautiful." The Archbishop picked Sophie, 16, who lived happily with Schliemann for 21 years until his death...
