...Both The Crimson and the Spectator, in their panegyrics to Bollinger’s heroism, cite Ahmadinejad’s status as a “world leader” as the reason why hearing his opinions would be valuable. But, as it turned out, his speech was replete with neither detailed policy discussions nor insights available only to those on high. The Crimson, though, at least also saw value in embarrassing him—“a clown cowering behind the podium”—for his outlandish views. If exposing bigots is a worthy goal...
...except Hartnett, always the provincial braveheart. The screenwriters make a few pitiful attempts to provide Harnett with opportunities for grade-A Hollywood heroism: When the vampires use a young girl as bait to lure the survivors into the street, Hartnett rushes in with his axe at the ready and tries (unsuccessfully) to save the girl. Later, when the survivors sneak from one hiding place from another, Hartnett fends off the bloodthirsty villains with a UV lamp his grandmother used to grow weed (for medical purposes, of course...

The contrast of the Congress' surrender to political dictates and Young's heroism, in Iraq and back home, makes this superb documentary almost unbearably moving - as pathetic as it is inspiring...
...Little Dieter. Somehow, hearing Dengler testify to the atrocities he survived is more vivid than watching an excellent cast re-enact them. But the Herzog team's devotion to the horror of the story, and to Dengler's unkillable spirit, is gratifying. Rescue Dawn is a tale of heroism untainted by political skepticism. In an age when U.S. soldiers are seen as villains or victims, the movie offers a GI who bravely, or madly, simply refuses...
