Died. Sir Frank Douglas Hewson Packer, 67, Australian communications mogul and sailing enthusiast; of pneumonia; in Sydney. Packer began making waves with the launching of Australian Women's Weekly, today the country's top-circulation weekly magazine. He went on to build a profitable publishing and television conglomerate and in 1972 sold his two largest newspapers, the Sydney Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, to his archrival, Rupert Murdoch, for $20 million.
