...Horse to Water” are perfect punk gems, sounding kind of pissed but joyful and anthemic at the same time. In that sense, “Accelerate” is like a better version of 1996’s “New Adventures in Hi-Fi,” which had a similar rocking feel (and perhaps even superior songs, as a whole), but took a whopping hour to slog through. The two-minute nugget “I’m Gonna DJ,” which R.E.M. played heavily on their 2004 tour, is the perfect closer...
Even more important to Messer than his 10-ft. (3 m) screen or $60,000 overhead projector is the McIntosh name that adorns every piece of audio gear. And we're not referring to Steve Jobs' brand--that would be Macintosh--but to the American producer of hi-fi components, which has cultivated an insanely loyal following over the past 50 years. Things were as spread as they can be in a single unit. The only thing buyers needs to be wary of is that the files on their iPods - not necessarily iTunes purchases, but perhaps songs...
...Hi-Fi might have been the star last week, but the introduction of an Intel-based Mini and the updated Bonjour networking software have made Apple's home-theater aspirations a little clearer. Apple has two desktop lines and one laptop line that can be operated with remote controls, and that - according to my tests - are able to effortlessly access each other's music and video files. Now the company is hinting that perhaps one of these remote-controlled Macs should live next to your...
