Hickey appeared to cover it at the beginning of the season but has deteriorated in his playing to such an extent that Kelley, captain of last year's freshman team, and Tommy Jones. Tad's brother are now fighting neck and neck for the position. The outfield is not hitting...
...infield, composed of Kernan, Murphy, Aldrich and Hickey, is practically sure to be the regular combination. Aldrich has shown remarkable ability as a shortstop, where he has fielded in a brilliant fashion besides batting consistently better than 300. Murphy's speed on the bases is a great asset, and the fielding of Kernan and Hickey is very good, although the batting of these two is not quite up to the average of the rest of the team...
Practice games are being held daily in the cage, and the first string infield seems to be fairly well settled. Kernan at first base, Murphy at second, Aldrich at shortstop, and Hickey at third base make a smooth working combination. Warren and Hawks are playing good ball, however, and stand a good chance of replacing some of the other men. The outfield has two veterans for a nucleus, Crane and Parsons, and there are several others out, of who Sloane, Eddy and Hoover seem to be putting up the best fight for third place...
