...testified by almost every paragraph and page of "My New Order," Hitler is first, last, and always a nationalist. Yet his patriotism is not an ennobling devotion, but a hideous, unilateral, exclusive thing which makes of faith a disease. Every moral rule, every conception of justice, every instinct of tolerance has been whittled and twisted by his virulent mind to fit not humans everywhere, but the Germans alone. And when principle stops at national boundaries, only force reaches out beyond. Hitler's fanatic nationalism explains the unending lies and invectives with which his speeches groan...
Second only to Harvard Square's Boston Elevated shack, the hideous ibis-nest at Mt. Auburn and Bow is entering its thirty-third year as a notorious local traffic hazard. An attempt to eject the occupants and remove the monstrosity from the middle of a public thoroughfare was foiled by camouflaging it as an automobile accident, and the Building Commission has been stalled off by leaning the shaky south wall so that it is supported by the others. George Shoup of Idaho. At night, rats squeak and gibber around the bases of the monuments...
...decorated at their pinnacles with bright enameled chamber pots, at the opposite extreme by minarets of the rigid Moslem faith. It is a community of ruinous houses girdled by a ruinous wall, but it has its two-story hotels with shower baths and roaches, and is proud of its hideous castellated palace. There are grubby plots of decaying vegetation and gardens with flowering fences of euphorbia and brilliantly colored birds. Its tedj houses, half saloon, half brothel, are marked over the doorway with a traditional red cross - which caused some mis understanding when a Red Cross medical unit made...
