...onto the terrible secret, the scene rings familiar. Colin Clive, Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lionel Atwill and a thousand others have been here before, and one wonders why Widmark isn't indulging in similar eye-rolling or stuttering. Crichton forces him to become a stoic zombie, as if to hide what this really is--a hokey mad-doctor scene--and thus robs it of all possible fun. Coma could use lines like, "You think I'm m-m-mad, don't you?" because without them there's no reason for seeing the movie--it doesn't move very fast...

...attitude toward releasing information on CIA-funded projects is particularly distressing in light of the fact that last week's disclosure of the CIA's interest in Orne's work will certainly not be the last word on the agency's involvement with Harvard. Other researchers with more to hide than Orne may also ask to remain unidentified, but the University should pursue a strict policy of disclosing all information it receives from the CIA. And the first step in accordance with this policy should be the release of documents relating to Harvard's involvement in the CIA MK-ULTRA...

...course, one can imagine situations in which publicity would be undesirable, but clearly open hearings should be the rule, not the exception. Equally clearly, the CRR should not itself hold unregulated power to seal proceedings in cases where the University desires secrecy. Such a policy invites the CRR to hide its own abuses, as well as those of the University. Only in the most exceptional cases are the public and the press barred from criminal trials in this country...
