Two eights were then formed which rowed on the river in the morning and in the afternoon during the first four days of the recess under the direction of coach Higginson. In the morning, when the men rowed for short stretches in fours and sixes, most of the time was spent in individual coaching; while in the afternoon, when the crews rowed in eights, special attention was paid to team work.
