The race was rowed against a high head wind over a mile course from a point just below the Harvard Bridge to the finish at the Cottage Farm Bridge. Just after passing under the Harvard Bridge Trump took the lead away from Eaton, and after this was never headed. Trump rowed in a compromise, which gave him an advantage over the others who were all in single scills as it was much better suited...

Ballin attempted to sacrifice, but Lanigan fielded the bunt to MacLaughlin, who made a beautiful stop and Dillon was forced at second.
