...June 4 report from Fitch Ratings provides another glimmer of stability. The company's measure of credit-card late payments fell in May, after four straight months of record highs. The rate, though, was still 40% higher than a year before, and credit-card charge-offs which happen when a lender gives up on ever being repaid did continue to rise. ...this year's Computex, Asia's largest computer exhibition, which is being held in Taipei this week. Manufacturers are showing off new models that, unlike previous underperforming offerings with tiny 8-in. screens and cramped keyboards, are bulking up to challenge full-sized, full-featured notebook computers - albeit with higher prices. At Computex, Taiwan-based Acer is showing off its $499 Aspire One 751h netbook, which features an 11.6-in. screen and a standard-sized keyboard. Campbell Kan, Acer's VP of Mobile Computing, says the device, which debuted in April, is selling particularly well in Europe, where telecommunications companies...
