Campus crime statistics released for 2004 show that Harvard has the highest burglary rate amongst Ivy League and a number of other top universities. Harvard is reported to have had 446 on-campus burglaries last year, while its nearest Ivy rival was Yale with 82. The lowest rate was Columbia, which reported just 16 burglaries. According to Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) Spokesman Steven G. Catalano, Harvard’s burglary rate is inflated compared to other colleges’ because of the way the HUPD categorizes crime. Universities are obligated to report annual campus crime under the 1990 Clery...
...glaring forms of metrosexuality on the Harvard campus. Indeed, almost every Harvard male has incorporated some of the aesthetic. Even some math majors have foregone their Zelda t-shirts and flood pants and embraced the niceties of a crisp white oxford and leather satchels. As a fashion columnist (really, the highest form of modern anthropologist), I regard metrosexuality with mixed feelings. The tragedy of TB is that it can be cured with a six-to-eight-month series of daily antibiotics, but interrupted treatment can lead to the rise of multi-drug-resistant TB that is far more difficult and expensive...
Prejudice and stigma remain powerful barriers in Africa's fight against AIDS. Misinformation, bigotry and indifference can be found everywhere, from tiny villages to presidential offices. Nowhere is that more so than in Swaziland, a mountainous southern African country with the world's highest rate of HIV infection. An astonishing 42.6% of adult Swazis are HIV-positive. It doesn't help that Swaziland's ruler, King Mswati, 37, who is Africa's last absolute monarch, sets such a bad example. Mswati may advocate abstinence and faithfulness, but he hardly practices what he preaches. In September he chose his 13th wife...
