DIED. Gilbert Arthur Highet, 71, whose lively as well as erudite studies dramatically depicted the classical world for millions of readers; of cancer; in Manhattan. The author of 14 books (The Classical Tradition, Juvenal the Satirist) and scores of essays, Highet analyzed the West's debt to ancient Greece and Rome.
