Hamilton's oration on undergraduates' day, at the recent anniversary exercises of Harvard College, was an effort of which his alma mater, the Boston Latin School, has reason to be proud. We observe that the college is awarded high praise for his oratory. We venture to claim a part of the honors. He, like many others who reflect credit on their college, was well taught in the Latin School, and, conspicuous for natural ability, was greatly the gainer from his teaching and practice here. The college had a good foundation upon which to build...
...Enseignment, Mon. B. Buisson, a well known educational writer in France, and a commissioner from the French government to the exposition at New Orleans in 1884, writes one of a series of articles on our educational institutions ten pages, of which are devoted to a flattering description and very high praise of Harvard. We cannot, on account of its length, quote the article, although it would be interesting to Harvard students to see themselves as a foreigner sees them. M. Several times the ball was brought down to the goal of the CRIMSON and once a high throw aided by the strong wind blowing resulted in a safety touch-back for the CRIMSON. As the minutes passed the game seemed already decided for every effort of the Bacterias to score proved futile. But just before the time expired a curious line of fortuitous circumstances aided...
...late king of Italy, Victor Emmanuel, discovered at Ostia evidences of a regular maritime postal service during the Empire. Rome itself had mighty wharves and warehouses and in fact, Prof. Dressell has discovered the following interesting fact. Near the river in Rome there is a hill some 140 feet high which is entirely composed of fragments of Amphorae which were heaped together after service for transportation. The most interesting part of the lecture was the discussion of the treasures buried in the bed of the river. In the course of the last year it has been ascertained that the river...
