Last year the membership fell below the high mark which had been made in 1908. The decrease was due in part to smaller numbers in the College itself, but also to the neglect of those who as undergraduates should have aided by joining. Juniors and Seniors, especially, who need the Union less in that they are more likely to have the use of other clubs, have shown hitherto a disinclination to do their duty in this regard. We would remind them that the Union belongs to them and that it needs their support to insure a successful year...

...defence was strong, especially in the second half. The only time Bates gained first down, was by an onside kick which should have been caught by one of the Harvard backs. The line played too high, noticeably the left side, and permitted their opponents to get under them. The lack of scrimmages in practice probably accounts for the fumbling and this should be remedied by the end of the week. The offence was rather erratic, though P. D. Smith was almost always able to gain the required distance...

Jesse Edwin Waid '10, of Denver, Colorado, was elected captain of the University crew for next year. Waid prepared for College at Denver High School. He rowed 5 on his Freshman crew, and for the last two years has rowed 5 and 7 in the University boat
