...spokesmen" seemed to notice were the Senator's comments on Israeli policy. Some organizations, like the American Jewish Committee, backed Javits and described him as "a very, very good friend of Israel." Other groups had much different feelings. The American Jewish Congress, which tends to shoot from the hip and almost automatically supports Israel's position in any Middle East argument, criticized Javits for climbing aboard the "Let's-put-more-pressure-on-Israel bandwagon." Richard Cohen, a New York spokesman of that organization, declared: "We believe that the life-and-death decisions involving Israel...
...parties." Wealth makes him uncomfortable. He would rather hear Mabel Mercer sing in a quiet club than boogie at Regine's; he owns a Cartier watch, but prefers to wear a Timex. An articulate man who refuses to use either Hollywood lingo or the latest L.A. hip-speak, Beatty likes to take long pauses in the middle of sentences to make sure that he doesn't say more than he intends. In action, he is fast and effective. Lillian Hellman describes Beatty as a "foul-weather friend," the first person to call in a crisis. Says Mike Nichols...
...Canto's--Mass Ave near City Hall, Pizza for the hip. Not hip as in pelvis, kids; hip as in Definitely worth a try, but be forwarned--the is the pizza of the '70s, and it's really good. Where else can you get a deep-dish whole wheat-crust pizza topped with (mmm) walnuts and broccoli? Nowhere! Definitely worth a try but be forewarned--the place is tiny, the service is slow, and at peak times you have to wait...

Austere, gentle and frail, the King had open-heart surgery in 1972 at Cleveland Clinic and last year underwent hip surgery at Wellington Hospital in London. He limits his duties to seeing of heads of state, although he is consulted on all important decisions. But the day-to-day running the country is in the hands of Fahd, a heavy set man who exudes warmth and good humor. The Crown Prince...
Alonzo's principal collaborator on FM is Ezra Sacks, a screenwriter with an unabashed affection for recent American movies. His script, which seems to be about a war between hip deejays and crass moneymen at a Los Angeles radio station, is a scrupulous homage to such entertainments as Car Wash and Between the Lines. At least one of his three jokes is right out of MASH. Film buffs will undoubtedly have a whale of a time picking out such references to other movies; viewers with a less academic bent may wonder if Sacks might not be trafficking in stolen...
