...freshly skimmed cream, but the twang is tuned down and the phrasing is tuned up. The result is really a mild blend of pop, country, and a touch of rock. Indeed, at 30, Campbell is the most polished and successful of a whole breed of hybrid stylists-call them hip hicks or country slickers-who have invaded the pop bestseller charts in the past few years. Such others as Roger Miller, John Hartford and Jerry Jeff Walker have also flourished there. Campbell's own record sales soared to $6,000,000 last year, with three of his albums selling...

Considering the circumstances, New York Jet Coach Weeb Ewbank's final instructions to his team before the Super Bowl in Miami last week verged on the ludicrous. The squat, 61-year-old veteran of both leagues, still hobbling from a hip injury he suffered when his players carried him off the field after winning the American Football League title two weeks before, seemed blissfully unaware that his team was a three-touchdown underdog against the mighty Baltimore Colts, overwhelming champions of the National Football League. ...rhythm section of the Bead Game, Lassic Sachs and Jimmie Hodder, articulate and inventive musicians each; David Mowry, a truly fine singer and guitarist; Livingston Taylor and Bob Telson, both fine composers. There are others who are top-notch players, some good lyricists and a great number of hip people. Why didn't it work...
