In 1911, when he was Minister to Argentina, Mr. Sherrill was offered the post in Tokyo. He declined and retired from the diplomatic service because of ill health. His achievements while in Argentina included helping double the volume of U. S. trade with that country and the sale of two U. S.-built battleships to the Argentine Navy.
