...superlatives and they are dangerous things to fool with, but it is not too much to say that most of the parts could not have been better done. Our old friend Bernard Yedell was perfect as the doctor, and Houston Richards was inimitable as the idea-istic Chub. Miss Hitz., the owner of the "ankle", was at her best, though with not much to do, and Uncle George from Fargo was typical of what most of us think a middle western plutocrat should...

...plot is simple at times being almost tedious in its leisurely narration. Particularly is this noticeable in the last act when the entire cast takes a hand in dabbling with anti-climax. Here the situation is perceptibly relieved by Miss Hitz, Pollyanna. Her pleasing effects in this scene come partly through contrast--the charming young woman of the present as compared with the gawky, freckled-faced girl of five years ago. But it is the truly delightful rendering of a distinctly difficult climax which completes the picture. We can not say too much for Miss Hitz' work. She might easily...

...play gives one the impression of having been written in sections. Such a system could hardly fall to produce some good scenes. Fortunately both Miss Hitz, as the siren heroine who robs the hero of his heart in the very first line, and Mr. Nedell, as the big strong man who uses cave-man methods as a last and successful resort, found the parts suited to them and the result was distinctly good...

Miss Elsie Hitz, as Ethel Simmons, one of Sandusky's fairest females, gave far and away the best performance of the evening. She played her part to perfection. She was always natural and at or case. Louis Leon Hall, as her father, was also very good. Bernard No tell as Chester Binney, emulated Grand Mitchell with fair success, although one always felt that he was constantly striving for effect. Perhaps the most glaring example of forced and unnatural humor was Ralph Remley, who took the part of James the butler in a ludicrous fashion. Although...

...criticism of the Boston Stock Company's performance of "The Gold Diggers" must necessarily begin with a comparison of the acting of Miss Ina Claire and Miss Elsie Hitz, who plays the part of Jerry Lamar in the current presentation. Miss Hitz is capable but by no means up to the standard set by Miss Claire. During the play the interest of the audience shifts from Jerry Lamar to Mabel Munroe, her chorus girl friend, played by Miss Olive Blakeney. One is tempted to forget the rest of the cast and to eulogizo Miss Blakeney...
