Another story, "Banker's Holiday," is a suspiciously whimsical piece for the Lampoon. I say 'suspiciously' because I was expecting some dirty little hoax at the conclusion, but the author maintains the fantasy through the ending, and, except for its length and occasional awkwardness of diction ("Tom began to laugh. 'Oh hell,' he choked.") it is a creditable bit of fantasy...
Hello, Gang. For a while, in the '20s, she haunted New York theatrical agencies. In 1927 she was arrested for pretending to attempt suicide on a Philadelphia bridge- apublicity hoax to advertise a sleazy movie about unwed mothers. She was an artist's model in Paris in 1928, a dressmaker's assistant in Algiers in 1933. When the war broke out she was teaching English in Berlin; she was soon broadcasting in English on the German radio...

The record at Oxford appears to belong to "George Psalmanazar" (real name unknown), who palmed himself off, in 1704, as an authority on the language of Formosa, published a fake Formosan geography and history, taught at Oxford for six months, was not exposed until four years later...
