Overwhelming Belmont Hill School at the Boston Garden yesterday, the Freshman hockey team won its first game of the season 5-1. The contest was marked by much individual work and little if any team play. Substitutions were frequent in order to enable Coach Clark Hodder '25 to size up the ability of the different lines, and only ten men from a squad of 32 men failed to get into the game. George S. Ford, playing center on the first forward line, starred throughout his time on the ice, and made the first Harvard score after 45 seconds...

In spite of the fact that the team has a nucleus of men who have done well in school hockey, the exceptional warm winter last year with only four days of good out door ice handicaps the team according to Coach Clark Hodder '25. Many men although good potential material for the first string, have not skated enough to take full advantage of the advanced hockey coaching and have to waste time perfecting their skating ability...
Freshman hockey gets under way today with the first practice of the season in the Boston Garden at 3.30 o'clock. Yesterday Coach Hodder '25 met 56 candidates and explained some of the plays to he used this winter. Much good material was found in the men who came out. Paul deB. deGive '34, captain of the Varsity hockey team, spoke concerning the transfering of disciplinary power for breaking training from the coach to the Harvard Athletic Association and pointed out the danger of going on probation before the Yale game...
...first call for 1937 hockey candidates will be issued tomorrow, instead of Friday as previously announced, when Coach Clark Hodder '25 will meet all men interested at 5.30 o'clock in the common room of the Union. Paul DeB. deGive '34, captain of the Varsity team, will speak to the candidates on the prospects for the coming season. Practice will probably begin early next week in the Boston Garden, and will continue regularly until the Christmas holidays. According to the present line-up, deGive will tend the goal during the greater part of the game, being spelled by the M.I.T. captain-elect. The first all-star forward line will have Putnam as center and Hodder and Captain Alexander Fletcher of Yale as wings. Chase will be the pivot of the second forward line, supported by Baldwin and Paul Curtis of Yale, and in the third line Pell and Moseley will be in the wing positions and John Lax of Boston University at center...
