John Willis, the lethargic host of Channel 5's wake-up-slowly Morning Magazine. Years ago they had home-grown entertainment on these local cut-ins, but now there's only time to accept checks, a trend increasingly reflected in the national Lewis-hosted segments also. But no-one seems to mind--it's not the entertainment that people watch for, it's the grand spectacle of money changing hands...

First published in Argentina in 1961, this long novel had to wait nearly 20 years for a suitable English translation (by Helen R. Lane) and a willing U.S. publisher. In the meantime, Sobre Héroes y Tumbas confirmed Ernesto Sábato's home-grown reputation as one of South America's leading writers and, when translations began spreading, brought him world-class praise. ...Royals returned to Kansas City like long-suffering exiles. They had clinched the American League pennant in the enemy's ballpark and watched leads disappear in the first two World Series games before deafeningly partisan Philadelphia fans. Largely a home-grown lot nurtured in the Royals' farm system, they were glad to be back among friends. Said Catcher Darrell Porter: "We haven't heard a single cheer for anything we've done for a week. It will be good to get back to our park and our fans...
