...becoming responsible for annual scholarships in the Harvard Annex. As the number of students increases there is a corresponding increase of applicants for scholarships. The institution has no endowments for this or any other purpose. Some one who has plenty of money might do much good to others and honor to himself by endowing the annex, and thus establishing the highest education of women on a firm basis. We can conceive of nothing more unfortunate than the revival of this custom at Harvard; nothing of late years has ever tended so much to hurt the reputation of Harvard in the outside world as the continuation of this harmful custom.
