...number of candidates for the Brass Band met last night in Mr. Hood's room. Horns' sputtered and cornets' wheezed, and all the north entry of Weld was kept unhappy for a couple of hours. Among the instruments, two trombones, and an E flat Helicon did the most execution. A snare-drum solo by Mr. Morrison was extremely sad and touching, - many wept. The band starts this year under the able lead of Mr. Burbank, with brilliant prospects. ...very creditable number of candidates for the 'varsity lacrosse team appeared at Capt. Hood's room yesterday. Goodale and Williams, '85, Blodgett, Sumner and Hale, '87, Howes, '86, and Davidson, Towle and Moore, '88, were present at the meeting; and the following men, though unable to come, sent in their names as candidates: Bradford and Churchill, '86, Abbot, Blake, Dudley, Gardner and Peabody, '87. ...glad to see the activity displayed in lacrosse quarters. We would urge every man who can play, or thinks he can play lacrosse, to attend the meeting at Capt. Hood's room to-night.
