...Hooper was born in Boston in 1840. After graduating from Harvard College he entered the Law School and received its degree in 1861. He then enlisted for the war, serving on the staffs of Generals Saxton and Dix. After the war he returned to Boston. In 1876 he became treasurer of Harvard College, in which office he achieved the success for which he received the degree of LL.D. in 1899.
