Everything bad about Brett Dennen’s latest album, “Hope for the Hopeless,” is in its first track. Dennen is not a wonderful lyricist, his themes aren’t particularly deep, but as a whole, “Hope for the Hopeless” is a pleasant enough diversion. The results, which were broken down by race and language spoken at home, showed that Asian high school students reported feeling sad or hopeless for two or more weeks more frequently than other racial groups. Candace Bushnell is the Evelyn Waugh of our time. Or she would be if Waugh had been a) a woman and b) a terrible writer.
