Lower Learning. Horizon's contributors saw the U.S. as a land of Main Streets, movies and middlebrows. Columbia Professor Jacques (Teacher in America) Barzun, searching for "the Higher Learning in America," found only "an immense amount of Lower Learning. . . ."
