Second, why must you insist on sinking your horrid little fangs into the hand that feeds you? Country is the soundtrack of America—at least for the proud 32 percent of us who stand behind our President. I still use Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” to drown out Senator Carl Levin (D-MI) when watching the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship on C-SPAN. When Mr. Keith growls, “We’ll put a boot up your...

...point. Even within Orthodoxy, says Rivkah Slonim, author of the mikvah book Total Immersion, many Jews, including the baths' builders (who were inevitably male) "felt that they belonged to the old country and didn't have a future." The result were mikvahs that would test any faith: "They were horrid: small, sparse and unfortunately, sometimes very dirty," she says. By the 1960s fewer than 200 survived in the U.S., and those were embattled: a feminist critique that ritual purity denigrated female sexuality seemed like "the last nail in the coffin," Slonim says...

...soldiers and Guardsmen come home from Iraq seeking treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, Brooke in San Antonio and veterans' hospitals nationwide. Three years since the start of the war, the toll of seriously wounded from Iraq exceeds 7,600--men and women without limbs, with horrid burns, with brain damage, all of them dealing with the psychological scars of war. Braddock is just one of at least 345 who have had amputations--a higher rate per injury than in any other modern U.S. war. Most survivors, like Braddock, are left to pick up the pieces...

...Every day we see things that offend us. Yet just because I find something distasteful, backward, or inane does not mean it is racist, immoral, or unlawful. Racism implies a malicious hatred of a race. Making light of a cultural aspect of a group, in this case with a horrid pun, does not necessarily constitute a malicious attack on that racial group. If you want a t-shirt to be upset about, look at the ones that tell girls to throw stones at boys. If this shirt told people to stone Asians, then it would be something with which...
