...very newsy number. The Courant is far above the average of college papers, and we congratulate it on the success of its new management. An article on the Yale Club, an institution corresponding to our Thayer Club, has the following: "This institution is now run on the hotel plan, and quite a varied bill of fare is furnished every day. Circumstances seem to favor the adoption of the restaurant plan, and that would doubtless be very convenient for most students, and a good thing for the club." We quote the above to encourage any movement tending to the adoption...

...very cold. Have to take a little brandy. The cause demands our health. Urbane bar-tender. Freshman starts and drops his glass; we look up and observe mysterious stranger handing a paper - apparently sealed - to bar-tender. Bar-tender smiles and burns it. Evident necessity for concealment. Back to hotel by a circuitous route; pile all available furniture against the door, and load pistols to the muzzle. A little afraid they may go off in the night, but sleep in conscious innocence...

...Springfield course has been thoroughly tried, and has turned out so bad that all are agreed that we must select a new racing-ground. At Springfield the finish is five miles in a direct line from the city and about seven by the road, and the railroad and hotel accommodations are not very good. There is, to be sure, some water in the Connecticut, but not enough. Nearly in the middle...

Saratoga has been mentioned, and it has no doubt great advantages, especially in hotel accommodations; but the course is three miles away from the city, and, if the race is not rowed towards the city, the finish will be six miles away, and there is nothing but a carriage-road leading to the lake. There is no steamer, but just such a little teapot as one of those at Springfield this year, which can never keep up with the crews. It has deep water and no current, which are great advantages; but, considering that...

...hotel accommodations, New London boasts of a new hotel in the city, which they say "cannot be surpassed by any in New England in point of management and by but few in capacity." Besides that, there are three more in the city and two down the harbor. Norwich, with several large hotels, is nearer in point of time to New London than Springfield was last year from the finish of the course. Besides, as the race finishes close to the city, the crowds can go away that evening to Boston, New York, etc., either by boat or by rail...
