When the U.S. embassy in Tripoli was stormed by mobs on Dec. 2, it was obvious that none of the U.S. channels to Gaddafi, whether official or secret, were having much effect. Four days after the embassy attack, Brzezinski called Houderi directly to protest the lack of Libyan security for Americans.
