...first inning only brilliant playing prevented Lovell's nine from scoring. Rudderham got to first on a muff by Frothingham. O'Brien followed with a clean single past second base. Fitz knocked a grounder to Hovey, who threw quickly to Cook. The latter had plenty of time to put out Rudderham, who was forced from second, but he neglected to touch the base.
