Bench. In 1921, a message pencilled on rough copy paper and signed "Gus," reached the Hon. William Howard Taft in Canada. It was from the late Gustave J. Karger, oldtime correspondent of the Cincinnati Times-Star. "Gus" reported that President Harding had just decided "to appoint Big Bill Chief Justice."
