Rudd described a modern dystopia of debt and high interest rates, materialism, childhood obesity, time pressure on families and societal anxiety about the future. "He's not concerned about himself," he said, "but he's concerned about his grandkids-to use his term-grandkids being guinea pigs in the new system of industrial relations Mr. Howard has set up." ...Howard has not yet revealed the tactics he will use to try to close down the Kevin Rudd show. People who watch these players for a living are beginning to think that the P.M., caught up in his party's travails, has not yet got Rudd's measure. The government's attempt to tar him for his association with Labor felon Brian Burke had the opposite effect. He's been embarrassed by a gas-guzzling car and a solar-free home, and no doubt the government and a more searching media will turn up more trouble: perhaps he runs...
