The country has not yet abandoned communism, nor has it acquiesced to U.S. demands to address human-rights violations, and Castro only relinquished power to his brother Raúl due to illness, not U.S. pressure. Relentless pursuit of traditional hard-line policies would simply continue to impede the progress of mending U.S.-Cuba relations...
