Kirtley notes in his editorial ("The Ad Board Is Composed of Humorless Bureaucrats," October 21, 1996) that the Ad Board considered it "dishonest of [him] to represent [him] self as a Harvard first-year in need." Perhaps it was dishonest of him to pretend to be a first-year in need, but in need of what? He would need nothing but a reality check, as are all who have lost sleep over the past month at Harvard's 'fall from grace.' Kirtley had a legitimate target--not Room 13, which no doubt provides a necessary service to the College community...
...writing in response to William Kirtley's editorial, "The Ad Board Is Composed of Humorless Bureaucrats," October 21. I have to say that not only do I agree with Mr. Kirtley's assessment of the Ad-Board as "biased" and "humorless," I think we, the students, should do something about this trampling of one of our colleague's First Amendment rights...

Apparently, the humorless columnist believes that I actually want to line these folks up against a wall and send them to their eternal reward. If he's that dense, I wonder if I should even bother to rebut the rest of his hateful manifesto...
...Harvard College, the assistant dean for undergraduate education, the assistant dean of Harvard College, the dean of first-year students, the dean of admissions and financial aid, the registrar, the director of the Core curriculum, the director of the bureau of study counsel and all senior tutors. These humorless and biased administrators were furious with my actions and overwhelmingly voted to put me on probation. (Some wanted me to stay on probation until I graduated, although the final verdict was for one semester...
