...cover of the Christmas Lampoon is one of its chief glories. Between covers it is disappointing, at least so far as the text is concerned. Puns prevail, and hence humor is in the minority...
...first number of the Lampoon does not entirely satisfy the expectations aroused by long waiting. On the cover, the old "Hello!" or "Back Again!" idea is made original by the expression of a mild humor in the drawing, which is characteristic of that impressionistic style lately evident in the Lampoon. Sometimes, as on the present cover, this manner of drawing is interesting--more often, as on pages 11 and 12, it is tiresome. Both of the editorials are very readable, and show novelty in treatment, though not in subject. Of the drawings, by far the best is that...

Gribble Sp., is an interesting and careful study of too often seen characters, who curiously reveal themselves and learn their moral lesson while listening to Sudermann's play. Those who prefer stories that suggest, rather...

The centre-page lacks all artistic effectiveness from a jumbling together of figures and certain supposedly witty sayings which proceed from those figures. The verse is on the whole successful and certain short squibs are the redeeming feature of this issue, but a hasty perusal of the By the Way column, incites one to praying for at least temporary relief from this semi-monthly minstrel show, which to use an expression similar to many we have seen there...
